SpaceTime FAQ File
- Oiy! SpaceTime crashes under Windows XP!
Please ensure you are running the latest XP supported drivers from your
video card manufacturer. It appears that some of XP's stock drivers, particularly
for nVidia graphics chips, exhibit crash symptoms which seem to be rectified
by current video drivers.
- I've downloaded a new 3DS mesh from 3D Cafe,
Avalon, etc.
but when I open it with SpaceTime, I don't see anything other than the clock
digits and the animated starfield. Where is the mesh?
Some meshes use large scale models. Usually, if you keep hitting
SpaceTime's gross scaling keys (i.e. the 'H' key to Halve the mesh geometry by
50%), you should begin to see something. Another problem can occur when the
artist places his models too far from the origin at (0, 0, 0). Performing a
'Fly By' menu option, or moving around with the arrow keys and Page Up/Down
sometimes locates these wayward models.
One day, I'll install some auto-centering & auto-scaling code
into SpaceTime to fix this properly.
- I can't figure out how the keyboard controls work!
Basically:
- The HOME key always restores the default viewpoint position.
- UP and DOWN Arrow keys move the viewpoint along the Z-Axis.
- LEFT and RIGHT Arrow keys move the viewpoint along X-Axis
values.
- PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys move the viewpoint along Y-Axis
values.
- Note that the viewpoint is always directed toward the Origin
(0,0,0), to prevent accidentally looking off into empty space.
- In addition:
- The 'H' key Halves the size of the mesh object
- The 'D' key Doubles the size of the mesh object
- The '+' keypad key increases the scale of the mesh object by 10%
- The '-' keypad key decreases the scale of the mesh object by 10%
- The '0' through '9' keyboard keys vary the speed of the Starfield animation
